The Domicile

Lake Norman, North Carolina

From the concept development to the rendered interior architecture drawings, the KBN interior design team created each detail of the Domicile to fit the unique vision of the homeowners. KBN Interiors set out to create a look influenced by contemporary Hawaiian interior design and mid-century modern style in this North Carolina home. In partnership with residential plan designer Jim Phelps, KBN Interiors brought to life a unique and luxurious interior architecture plan designed for smart living—right on the shores of Lake Norman.

From the millwork to the paneling to the lighting design, the interior design team worked with customized specifications to create a curated look. Rich dark shades and a neutral palette of mineral tints set the mood. Wide plank walnut floors are stained with a warm espresso brown finish. Fine details like the custom zebra wood cabinetry, MasterCut limestone wall and topographical sink basin give this home a contemporary edge and bold personality all its own.

A detail exclusive to the Domicile is the Reaching Quiet sink basin. This unique sink made of glass fiber reinforced concrete, is designed to simulate the topography of the land on which the house is built. Suspended vanities in each bathroom glow from below, and warmly illuminate the space.

For a splash of color KBN built a custom lime green vanity featuring WalkerZanger tiles. Designed for the homeowner’s daughter, the Sunpan vanity bench completes this special feature, and makes for the perfect nook to get ready in.

KBN Interiors melds beauty, form and function in this urban chic home. As elegant as this home's interiors are, the breezy indoor-outdoor flow blends the lakeside lifestyle with urban sensibilities. The end result takes the best of both worlds and rolls them into one stunning and high-functioning home.
